House Bill 606 is the compromise drivers’ license legislation. This legislation allows a two tier drivers’ license. The first level is for those persons legally within New Mexico and is real id compliant. The second level is for those who meet the dream act but would not allow these person’s to board aircraft. Today we had a floor debate and moved this tabled bill from the Labor Committee to the Judiciary Committee. The next successful motion moved HB 606 to the Judiciary Committee. The next successful motion moved HB 606 to the Appropriations Committee. The motion to move HB 606 from Appropriations to the House floor failed on a 35 to 35 vote. I am a cosponsor of this legislation and supported all the motions. It is time we have a floor vote on this legislation and pass it to the Senate.
